I have a great idea but I am worried about how to present it.
Will people like it?
Will I be able to present the information correctly?
I get these questions all the time and there is a simple answer...
The faster you start the sooner you grow.
I used to wait for days before taking an idea and starting to write an article or make a video and this ended up holding me back.
Content creation has become an essential skill for individuals and businesses alike. Whether you're an entrepreneur, a seasoned marketer, or simply someone with a story to tell, understanding the process of transforming ideas into tangible content or digital products is crucial.
The Problem:
Most people don't know where or how to get started so great ideas get wasted in the waiting period.
The solution is to follow a simple process to run your ideas through and produce quality consumable content on the other side faster. This is something I specifically train people on in my courses as I believe it is over %60 of the puzzle for any digital brand or business.
You start anything with an idea. This initial stage is all about brainstorming, and exploring various concepts.
Ideas can come from anywhere: personal experiences, current events, industry trends, or even casual conversations with friends. The key is to remain open and receptive to inspiration.
I recommend keeping a note in your phone or on your laptop for ideas only.
Don't just pick 1 idea but jot down 25 to start with. These ideas will then give you more ideas and over time will form into many pieces of content.
Let's say you are in the Music teaching space.
Start by writing down 25 topics music related that you can converse naturally about.
Example: Music reading, writing, How I learn a song, How I write a song, Best places to find ...
The more ideas you write down here the easier it will be to create content from them.
With a promising idea in hand, it's time to start fleshing it out. This "pen to paper" phase is where you begin to give structure and substance to your concept.
Start by outlining the main points or sections of your content. If you're writing an article, this might involve creating a rough draft or a detailed outline. For a video project, you might begin storyboarding or scripting.
The goal here is to transform your abstract idea into a concrete plan of action.
Don't worry about perfection at this stage – focus on getting your thoughts down and organizing them in a logical flow. This is also the time to conduct any necessary research to support your content, gathering facts, statistics, or expert opinions that will lend credibility to your work. As you write or sketch out your ideas, you may find that your original concept evolves or takes unexpected turns. This is ok and a part of the process.
Most of my initial ideas never end up exactly the way they started at the end but that is how I get them targeted to what my audience is looking for vs. what I am thinking I want to create.
With a solid foundation for your content in place, it's crucial to consider who you're creating for. Understanding your target audience is essential for crafting content that resonates and drives engagement.
What problems are they trying to solve?
What kind of content do they typically consume?
How do they prefer to receive information?
I run all my content through these questions to make sure I am speaking to my audience specifically and solving a problem. I do not put out random content and everything is done with a sole purpose. Each piece of content you put out should have a purpose to guide a reader to take an action.
The final step in the content creation process is to launch your digital product and share it with your audience or potential audience.
This involves choosing the right platforms and channels to reach your target audience effectively. Will you publish on your own website, share on social media platforms, or distribute through established content marketplaces?
I teach this in the content production system course and always recommend you start with 2 platforms, master those platforms, and then add in another.
I see too often people start with too many platforms and instead of excelling in 1 of them they are all mediocre at best.
